HOST A POLITICAL RALLY

On an early Wednesday, 24th February morning, the call comes from an aide of Dr. Daniel E. Cassell that he was ready to have a sit with us to talk politics after what appeared to be a moving speech given on the historic occasion of his party’s launch.

Long before the launch, he has basically been involved with humanitarian work: building bridges, strengthening democracy and free speech and sorting out the challenges that come with poverty and deprivation from what he calls a failed system.

With several efforts to meet him proving fruitless, I was elated when the call came that all was set and Cassell was ready to sit for a talk, well I was left with a lot on my mind, who he is, what he stands for behind the curtains and what man leadership charisma he possesses amongst others.

As early as 9am we sped into Monrovia’s busy traffic from our 18th Street offices given a full description of the newly formed, People Liberation Party’s HQ just opposite the YWCA building in Congo Town, same side as VP Jewel Howard Taylor’s old residence or the French Embassy.

As early as we got in, there was Cassell’s classic Range Rover parked, hundreds already in and some taking ID cards while women and youths alike munching on some already cooked meal in the back. Lined up also were vehicles labelled PLP and ready for outstations assignment, a huge conference hall where several were obtaining party’s membership forms, a magnificent water fountain, glittering from the distance; ‘Life is here, I said to myself.

Have I been in some Presidential Candidates offices? Yes I have, but it seems none like Dr. Cassell’s so far, the man has several office compartments, some for private meetings others for conference, a sliding window on the balcony to walk through and greet partisans amongst others totally indescribable.
